It was a 30 min drive to the complex and the building looked quite run down... We went to the womens area and got undressed down to our jocks then hopped into a chair to have a head massage ningbo .
Toast and fruit for brekky today and we left for out next stop - Dambulla at around 8am. We made it there in less than 2 hours thanks to a new speedy driver. We checked into the Gimahala Hotel which compared to last night is total paradise.
We quickly washed before making the short distance down the road to check out the Dambulla Caves.
Entrance to Dambulla Caves There is a huge tacky gold Buddha at the base that was ??zht2524sdfmnsdfk donated by the Japanese. We bought our tickets and started the climb up to the caves.
After taking our shoes off we entered and waited for the monks to finish their prayers before having a look in the caves. The first caves contained a huge reclining Buddha with beautifully decorated feet. The second cave was huge - its over 50m long and contains over 50 Buddha images. A natural spring of water drips inside and they have no idea where it comes front... one of life's mysteries.! The roof is painted with more Buddha images.... The caves were used by a King that was driven out of Anuradhapura and took refuge here, carving into the caves.. later kings improved and decorated. The 3rd cave had more Buddhas in it and a spectacular reclining one against the wall....I was really surprised at how colourful the inside of the caves were - just amazing. The 4th and 5th caves were quite small and were most likely used for storage... I slyly stalked some monks to take their photo then we walked all the way back down. After we hopped onto the tables for a front and back all over massage ningbo ... well needed!
The next stage was the hot box - you laid down on this wooden slab, a lid was pulled down over you and all that pokes out is your head.
The box heats up and hopefully all the bad stuff sweats out you... The third step was to hop in a sauna for more sweating... ! Inside Dambulla Caves A quick shower and $21 Aussie later we were all cleaned and ready to relax by the hotel pool... We had a few drinks at dinner and i had this dish called Chicken Biriyani - chicken, egg, rice, mint sambal and curry sauce ... really good! Tomorrow is a v early start... pre dawn!
Back in town i made my way to the local bakery for lunch and to stock up on snacks then came back to the hotel to get ready for my Ayurveda ningbo massage..
